What is an ingrown toenail?
An ingrown toenail happens when the edge of the nail grows or presses into the skin beside it, most often on the big toe. It can cause pain, redness and swelling, and may become infected.
Conservative management, including partial nail resection, removes the section of nail that's pressing into the skin to relieve pain and let the area settle.
